Delivering to Strathmore

Medical Equipment Rental in Strathmore

Strathmore is about 50 km east of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway, and it has its own hospital: Strathmore District Health Services on Brent Boulevard, about four minutes from the town centre. The next emergency department to the west is Peter Lougheed Centre, around 37 minutes away. For a town of 14,339, that makes the local hospital the centre of a lot of care, including the Home Care office.

We rent patient lifts, sit-to-stand lifts, hospital beds, lift chairs and ramps by the month and bring them out from downtown Calgary, a drive of about 52 km and 46 minutes along the Trans-Canada. The crew sets the equipment up, shows the family and caregivers how to use it and collects it when you are done.

Coming home from

  • Strathmore District Health Services

At 200 Brent Boulevard, about 2.9 km or 4 minutes from central Strathmore. Its emergency department never closes, and it lists General Medicine inpatient beds, Home Care, an Adult Day Program and community physiotherapy.

  • Peter Lougheed Centre

The next emergency department, about 45 km or 37 minutes west in NE Calgary. It lists inpatient orthopedic services and the Calgary COPD and Asthma Program.

Going home to Strathmore

Strathmore patients come home along one of two routes. Some leave the General Medicine unit at Strathmore District Health Services, a few minutes from home. Others have had surgery or specialist care in Calgary and ride back along the Trans-Canada. Either way, the equipment comes from our downtown address, 46 minutes away, so a phone call the moment a discharge date appears is worth more than anything else you can do. Same-day delivery is possible at times, when the equipment is in stock and you reach us early.

One advantage in Strathmore is that Home Care is listed in the same building as the hospital. Ask the ward or the transition team whether the home care conversation has started before discharge, because an assessment may change which lift or bed is recommended. If the patient is coming from a Calgary hospital, the referral can still be made through Community Care Access, the central intake for Calgary Zone Home Care, by anyone, provided the patient agrees.

Homes here, and what fits in them

In the 2021 census, 59% of Strathmore’s occupied homes were single-detached, 13% were apartments under five storeys, 13% were semi-detached and 10% were row houses. That low-rise apartment share is worth a closer look. A three- or four-storey building may or may not have an elevator, and the one it has may be small. Ask your building manager about the elevator, any move-in rules and where we can park, then tell us, and we will plan the delivery to fit.

Another 225 homes, about 4% of the town, were movable dwellings. In those, and in older semis, the bathroom door and the hallway to the bedroom are usually the tightest points for a patient lift, whose base has to roll through and then open wide around a bed or chair. Measure those spots before delivery. A sit-to-stand lift suits someone who can bear some weight, while a full sling lift suits someone who cannot. The care team decides which one applies.

Discharge coming up

Coming home from hospital in the next day or two?

Phone us with the discharge date and what the care team has recommended. We book delivery to arrive before the patient does, whether they are leaving Strathmore District Health Services. Same-day delivery depends on stock and the time you call, so the earlier the better.

Equipment rentals in Strathmore: questions

How long does delivery take from Calgary to Strathmore?
About 46 minutes from our downtown address along the Trans-Canada, without traffic or bad weather. For a discharge from Strathmore District Health Services, call when the date is first mentioned so we can book a window ahead of the patient.
Is there an extra charge to deliver to Strathmore?
We confirm any delivery charge for your Strathmore address at the time you book, together with the monthly rental rate and the delivery window.
My father is leaving Strathmore hospital tomorrow. What do you need from us?
The address, the discharge date and approximate time, and exactly what the care team recommended, such as a full-electric bed or a sit-to-stand lift. Also tell us the room the equipment will go in, the width of the doors on the way there, and how many steps there are at the entrance. With that, we can confirm stock and a delivery window on the same call.
We live in a low-rise apartment in Strathmore. Can you bring a hospital bed?
Usually, yes. Check with your building manager whether there is an elevator and whether it needs to be booked, and ask about parking near the entrance. If there are only stairs, describe them to us and we will tell you what is practical.
How do we return the equipment when it is no longer needed?
You do not bring anything back. Phone us when the rental is finished, and we book a time to come out to Strathmore, take the equipment apart and remove it. Rentals run month by month.
