About Chinook Medical Rentals, Calgary
Chinook Medical Rentals is a Calgary company, based downtown at 324 8 Ave SW. We rent the equipment that makes it possible to recover, or be cared for, at home: hospital beds and pressure mattresses, lift chairs, patient lifts, mobility scooters and ramps. And we do the parts around the equipment that families shouldn’t have to figure out alone.
We would rather show you how we work than tell you how much we care, so this page is about practice: what we rent, how it is looked after, who you talk to when you call, and how we fit around the clinicians already involved.
What we do
We rent home medical equipment by the month across Calgary and the surrounding communities, from Airdrie to High River and from Chestermere to Bragg Creek. We deliver it, carry it in, assemble and test it, show the patient and caregivers how it works, and take it away when it is no longer needed.
People usually call us at a turning point: a parent being discharged from Foothills or Rockyview later in the week, a spouse coming home after a hip replacement, a family deciding to care for someone at home near the end of life. The equipment is the same in each case; the timing and the tone are not. We try to get both right.
Equipment you can look up
We rent from manufacturers that publish their specifications: Drive Medical, Invacare, Golden Technologies, Pride Mobility, EZ-ACCESS and SPAN. That matters because a hospital bed or lift is rated for a certain weight, and you, your OT or your nurse should be able to check the model’s real rating rather than take our word for it.
On our product pages we quote the manufacturer’s own figures and say whose figures they are. Where a maker gives a total capacity and a separate patient maximum, we give both. Where we can’t confirm a number, we leave it out rather than guess.
Cleaning we explain in full
Every item goes through the same 10 steps between customers: inspection, removing soft goods, cleaning, disinfection with a Health Canada DIN-registered disinfectant, drying, a mattress and cover check, a function and safety test, a battery test, sealed packaging and dated tags, and storage apart from returned equipment.
We publish the whole process, and we describe it carefully. We follow the provincial infection prevention and control principles for non-critical reusable equipment. We don’t claim certifications or approvals we don’t hold, and we will answer any question about how a particular piece of equipment was cleaned.
A person answers the phone
When you call, you talk to someone who can check stock, look at the delivery schedule and tell you what is actually possible. Not a menu, and not a promise that falls apart the next morning. If same-day delivery isn’t possible, we say so on that call, along with the earliest time that is.
The questions we ask are practical ones: how much the person weighs, which room the equipment will go in, whether there are stairs, who will be doing the caring. They are how we avoid delivering a bed that isn’t rated for the patient or a lift that won’t fit beside the bed.
Working with clinicians, not around them
Occupational therapists, physiotherapists, home care nurses and discharge planners know the person’s needs better than we do. When they have recommended equipment, we supply it and set it up to their notes. When a family asks us something that is really a clinical question, such as whether a pressure mattress is needed or how to transfer someone safely, we send them back to the care team rather than guessing.
We are an independent business. We have no affiliation with any hospital, Alberta Health Services, insurer or funding program, and we don’t pretend otherwise. What we offer clinicians is reliability: a confirmed delivery before the discharge date, and a call back to the referrer to say the equipment is in.
