Going home to Okotoks
Okotoks sits between three emergency departments, each roughly 20 minutes away, so a family member could come home from South Health Campus in Calgary, from High River General or from Oilfields General. We deliver for all three. The part that takes planning is our side of the trip: the crew drives about 41 minutes from downtown Calgary, and longer at rush hour or on a snowy afternoon. Tell us which hospital, the discharge date and roughly what time the patient is expected home, and we set a window that puts the bed in place first.
Palliative care adds a different kind of timing. Only a palliative home care case manager or a palliative care consultant can refer someone to hospice, families list three or more hospices, and a transfer can happen very quickly once a bed opens. That means a family caring for someone at home in Okotoks may need a bed and pressure mattress today and no longer need them two weeks from now. We rent by the month and collect when the move happens. Home Care is also listed at the Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre, so ask the care team about a referral if one is not already in place.
