Delivering to High River

Hospital Bed, Lift Chair and Ramp Rental in High River

Nearly one in four High River residents is 65 or older: 24.7% in the 2021 census, or 3,530 people. The town also has its own hospital, High River General, about a kilometre from downtown, with an emergency department, surgical beds and a community cancer centre inside. So when someone here needs equipment at home, the hospital stay may have been a few blocks away rather than an hour up the highway.

Our trip is the long one. High River is about 65 km and 53 minutes from our downtown Calgary address, among the farthest places we deliver. We make that drive with a hospital bed, lift chair, patient lift or ramp on board, set it up in your home and explain it, then return for it when the rental ends. The more notice you can give us, the better we can match a local discharge.

Coming home from

  • High River General Hospital

At 560 9 Avenue SW, about a kilometre from the town centre. Its emergency department is always open, and it lists inpatient general surgery, a Community Seating Clinic, community physiotherapy and continuing care services.

  • High River Community Cancer Centre

Inside High River General Hospital, so treatment can happen close to home. Patients here sometimes need a bed or pressure care during treatment, as their care team advises.

  • Oilfields General Hospital

About 40 km or 33 minutes west in Diamond Valley, another hospital with an emergency department that never closes.

Going home to High River

A discharge from High River General is a short trip home for the patient and a long one for us. The hospital is minutes from most addresses in town, but our crew drives down from Calgary. The best way to close that gap is to phone the day the care team names a discharge date, even a tentative one, and tell us what they have recommended. A bed or lift delivered the afternoon before is far calmer than one that arrives while the family is already helping someone through the door. If the equipment is in stock, a same-day delivery is sometimes possible when you call early in the morning.

High River General lists transition services for patients leaving acute care, which is the team to ask about home care before the discharge. Community Care Access is the central intake for Calgary Zone Home Care, and anyone may make a referral with the person’s agreement. If the recommendation involves a wheelchair or special seating, the hospital’s Community Seating Clinic is the local place for that assessment; we rent the beds, lifts, chairs and ramps that go around it.

Homes here, and what fits in them

High River’s housing is more varied than most towns we serve. Half of occupied homes in 2021 were single-detached, 18% were semi-detached (the highest share of any area on our list), 13% were row houses and 13% were apartments under five storeys. Semis and row houses often mean a narrower footprint, a staircase close to the front door and bedrooms on a different floor from the kitchen. For a hospital bed, measure the main-floor room you would use, the doorway into it and the path from the entry, so we can confirm the fit before the drive down.

The census also counted 275 movable dwellings in High River, 4.8% of homes. Manufactured and mobile homes usually sit above the ground, with steps up to the door, and their hallways and bedroom doors can be tighter than in a site-built house. A modular aluminum ramp is often the answer at the entrance, but measure the full rise from the ground to the top of the threshold. Inside, tell us the narrowest doorway on the route to the bedroom before we choose between a full-size bed and a lift chair.

Discharge coming up

Coming home from hospital in the next day or two?

Phone us with the discharge date and what the care team has recommended. We book delivery to arrive before the patient does, whether they are leaving High River General Hospital. Same-day delivery depends on stock and the time you call, so the earlier the better.

Equipment rentals in High River: questions

Can you meet a discharge from High River General Hospital?
Yes. We are not connected to the hospital, but we plan deliveries around the discharge date its care team sets. The drive from our Calgary address is about 53 minutes, so call as early as you can, ideally the day a date is mentioned. Same-day delivery is sometimes possible when the equipment is in stock and you phone first thing.
Is there a delivery charge to High River?
High River is one of our longer drives. We confirm any delivery charge for your address when you book, along with the monthly rate, so there are no questions later.
We live in a manufactured home. Will a hospital bed fit?
Often, but measure first. We need the width of the entry door, the narrowest door or hallway on the way to the room, and the room size. If a full bed will not make the turn, we will say so and talk through alternatives, such as a setup in the living area or a lift chair for daytime rest.
Do I need a permit for a rental ramp in High River?
It depends on the ramp. Tall ramps and large platforms may be treated more like decks, so check with the Town of High River before the install date. We will give you the ramp length, height and platform sizes to help with that conversation.
Do you rent wheelchairs in High River?
No. We rent hospital beds, pressure mattresses, lift chairs, patient lifts, scooters and ramps. For wheelchairs and seating, ask your care team, and note that High River General Hospital lists a Community Seating Clinic.
