    About 18.1 km or 21 minutes from central Springbank, which makes it the nearest hospital, closer than Rockyview. It lists stroke, spinal cord injury and amputee rehabilitation clinics.

    About 25.4 km or 28 minutes away in SW Calgary, with an Acute Geriatric Unit, a Seniors Health Clinic and inpatient orthopedics.

Going home to Springbank

Rockyview sits on the south-west side of the city, but by road Foothills Medical Centre is the closer hospital to Springbank: about 21 minutes against 28. Either way the ride home is under half an hour, and our crew needs about 29 minutes from downtown, so a delivery on discharge day is often possible when the equipment is in stock and you call early. If the patient is finishing rehab at Carewest Glenmore Park, the discharge date may be known further ahead, which can give time for a site visit before a ramp goes in.

Weather matters more out here than in the city. Rocky View County says Priority 1 arterial roads can take up to 36 hours to clear after a snowfall, and Priority 2 collector roads are targeted within 60 hours after the snow stops. If a storm lands in the days before a discharge, tell us about your road and your lane, and plan to have the driveway itself cleared to the door. For home care after discharge, the central intake is Community Care Access, and anyone can make the referral with the patient’s agreement.

On a large lot, the right answer is often not the front steps but whichever entrance has the lowest rise and a hard surface leading to it.
